Do you remember the last time you rolled out of bed feeling like a 10/10? You know, the type of day when your clothes fit just right, you smile when you look in the mirror, you’re able to knock out your to-do list a record speed, and you could take on the world if you needed to?
If it’s been a while, or if you simply can’t remember the last time you felt this way, keep on reading because this message is for you!
Confidence plays a huge role in our lives and what we can accomplish. However, confidence can feel like this mystery that’s impossible to figure out. We know we need it, we know that all the successful people have it, but how do we get it? It’s not like we can pick some up during our weekly trip to the grocery store.
It’s true - you can’t buy confidence. However, you can build it through self care. These are my top 5 tips for developing self-confidence and being your best self.
Take responsibility for your own wellbeing.
Make sure that you aren’t skipping meals, you’re keeping up with drinking water, and you’re going to bed early enough to get good sleep. As moms, we tend to take care of everyone else first, then remember our own needs. When your wellbeing is sucked dry, so are you. It’s important to fill up on the basic activities that take care of your body.
I realized this years ago when I walked out of my first yoga class and there was no one keeping me accountable. It hit me that if I’m not looking after my own wellbeing, then no one will.
Attend to your mental health.
Stop burying your feelings! When you are faking happiness on the outside but miserable on the inside, this messes with your mental health. You start overthinking everything you do in order to save face and keep everyone around you happy. Then, cue the anxiety. Harboring negative emotions is the beginning of a tough cycle to break. Not to mention, negative thoughts really do a number on your confidence! Release how you feel by saying it out loud.
Once you release the negative, fill the space with a positive mantra. For example, if you are feeling discouraged when beginning yoga like I was, say how you are feeling. Then, repeat a mantra like, “I trust my body” or “I am strong enough for me.”
Build your emotional wellbeing.
