Do you ever catch yourself saying things like, “I can’t do this”, “I’ll try”, or “maybe I can”? What about focusing on the things that you don’t have or that frustrate you? I get it. It’s stressful trying to balance home life, personal life, and maybe even work life. We are the only ones keeping track of so much, which can lead to a lot of resentment.
So when you find yourself caught in a negative rut, try this exercise: Write down all the things that are bothering you, and then write down how you would feel if the sources of those didn’t exist.
For example, if the kids’ fighting has been stressing you out, how would you feel if you no longer had children? If you’re frustrated that you didn’t get that promotion, write down how you would feel if you didn’t have the job at all. Maybe everyone in your yoga class has been able to nail a new pose, but you’re still struggling to get the position. Imagine if you couldn’t exercise at all!
If you are still struggling, add affirmations and mantras into your routine. Look at yourself in the mirror and say, “I am worthy. I am amazing. Today, I will not judge. I am strong. I am grateful” Add a few that resonate with you specifically. Pair your affirmations with your daily yoga routine, and set your intention for gratefulness.
This retrains your mind to focus on the things in life for which we can be grateful. Remind yourself that life isn’t all bad, that you aren’t the victim. When you start being proactive and focusing on what you are grateful for, you get to take control of your life!
